BRCGS (Brand Reputation through Compliance Global Standards) is a leading provider of global supply chain assurance programmes recognised by thousands of customers worldwide. BRCGS was formed in 1996 as a division of the British Retail Consortium (BRC) to harmonize food safety standards. Since then, BRCGS has developed a range of global standards for food safety, environmental management, social responsibility, and other areas.

The BRCGS Global Standards consist of four Technical Standards that outline the necessary requirements for organizations to produce, package, store, and distribute safe food and consumer products. Implementation of these standards requires BRCGS training.

Within the associated protocol, there is a requirement for ongoing surveillance and confirmation of the follow-up of corrective actions on non-conformance to the Standard thus ensuring that a self-improving quality, hygiene and product safety system is established.

A Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) food safety plan.
Management commitment to provide sufficient resources.
A quality management system that details the organizational and managerial policies.
A series of pre-requisite programs for environmental and operational conditions needed for the production of food and controlling the food safety hazards.

The BRCGS – Food safety standard documentation shall include:

Food safety policy and related objectives,
Food safety manual & HACCP Plan,
Pre-requisite programs,
Documented procedures & work instructions,
Documents and records needed for the effective implementation of processes.
